About

“As far as cuisine is concerned one must read everything, see everything, hear everything, try everything, observe everything, in order to retain in the end, just a little bit.”

– Fernand Point

A little bit about moi…

I come from a family that has always been into food.  Before I was born, and in my very early years, my parents even set-up and operated a cooperative vegetarian restaurant in the small town where we lived (I think they would still admit that today, but I’m not sure) in the US.  I was fortunate enough to have good meals at home, and to go out to eat very often with my family while I grew up.  My parents liked all kinds of foods and, after I hit puberty, I eventually began to like things other than fettuccine alfredo and shrimp.

These days I am fascinated and inspired by food.  I am particularly interested in where food comes from (including the provenance of vegetables, fruit, meat, and so forth), and one of my greatest joys in life is eating out in restaurants.  I love eateries of all kinds: gourmet, fancy, poncy, informal, pubs, wine bars, stalls, markets – whatever – so long as the food tastes good and does what it says it should do on the tin, so to speak.

I have also more recently developed a real passion for wine.  I am still pretty much a beginner, although I have taken some very good courses with a leading wine instructor and have read a lot about all aspects of the subject.  I am slowly building up a little wine cellar – for these purposes highly recommend my current solution – and am busy trying every wine I can that grabs my attention.

My other main interest is travel.  I simply love traveling the world and seeing what it has to offer.  I enjoy seeing how people live in different countries, finding new and beautiful parts of nature, sampling local cuisine, and really enjoy discovering hidden treasures along the way – whether they be places to eat, amazing independent hotels, tiny villages, or what have you.

The purpose of this blog three-fold.  One, to serve as a journal of my experiences with food, wine and travel.  Two, to provide anyone who’s interested with a view of the world from my eyes.  And three, to hear what others make of what I have to say and to hear about where they’ve been and what they’ve tasted.  I look forward to sharing my experiences with you, and hope you enjoy reading a little slice of my life.

Oh yes, and after living in the UK for 10 years, I am now based in the New York Metro area.

  2. What a fun place to meet you! I remember your folks’ restaurant. I recall being invited to make some dish there–can’t recall what–but I learned that day from your dad the proper way to get an avocado out of its shell.

    • Thanks for much for the kind words. I am trying to continue with the blog, but it has obviously lost pace a little bit. Hopefully what I do write is interesting enough to merit the decrease in frequency! 🙂
